Army Training and Doctrine Command (ARTDOC) consists of its Headquarters, Battle Group and all the Training Institutions of Bangladesh Army. The Headquarters has seven internal divisions namely: Training Evaluation Division, Doctrine Division, Training Management Division, Resource Management Division, Simulation & Training Aid Division, Publication Division and Administrative Division. Under Battle Group, there are 1x Infantry Battalion and 4x Independent Sub Units. Through this Battle Group, ground feasibility study and/or validation are carried out in case of any changes in the Table of Organization & Equipment, doctrinal modifications and changes in the weapon system.
ARTDOC acts as the nodal agency of all institutional training of Bangladesh Army. It deals with training and operational doctrine at strategic, operational and tactical level. This prestigious organization also guides, monitors and evaluates formation training to optimize its effectiveness.
In the past Military Training (MT) Directorate at Army Headquarters (AHQ) was responsible to carryout different types of research works related to training of Bangladesh Army. However, limited resources, specially the manpower shortage were a major handicap to any comprehensive research and study in the field of doctrine and development. There was a long felt necessity to strengthen the Research & Development capability for strategic, operational, tactical and technological enhancement of the Bangladesh Army. To fulfill this requirement, Bangladesh Army felt the necessity of establishing a separate organization. On the other hand, continual changes in the complexities of the battle field scenario, combined with rapid technological advancement gave rise to many research oriented institutions and think tanks in various modern armies of the world to attain professional excellence through precocious training and development. Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) of USA and Army Training Command (ARTRAC) of India are two important examples in this regard.
Under this backdrop, Bangladesh Army raised ARTDOC on 25 July 2007 to develop its training and operational standards with special emphasis on Research & Development in the related fields. It has been assigned with the mission “To prepare the Army for war and be the architect of its future” and the motto of ARTDOC is ‘Victory through Excellence’.
